Cerita Gigi

Suhayl had his first tooth extraction last week.  His two top incisors (milk teeths) are already rotten and new teeths have emerged from behind. So, nak tak nak kena cabut. The only time available was on Tuesday, just before the school opens. We went to KS Liew Dental Surgery to see Datin Dr. Esther. A good friend recommended here because of her skills dealing with kids. Her clinic is usually full, but people always choose to wait no matter how long it would take. The clinic only take appointments for special cases. Other than that, it's "First come, first serve" basis. Since we have came here previously, we already knew the drill. Come early and register your name as soon as the door is opened. But unfortunately on that day, my husband took my car key with him to his office in Kerteh. That left us car-less and there goes our chance to be early.

Anyway, with a friend’s help I managed to get a cab within 15 minutes. We reached the clinic at 9:30 am (Waktu operasi is 9 am but the door opens at 8:30 am) and there were already 10 persons ahead of us.  We waited, waited.. went to the bank nearby, waited and waited until Suhayl’s name was called. By then, it was already 11:30 am. I thought it was going to be a quick one until I mentioned about Suhayl’s medical history. Since he had congenital heart defects (ASD & VSD), he needs to be covered with antibiotics before and after the extraction. This is to prevent the possibility of getting pericarditis.  The dentist said that although he has undergone corrective surgery and looks healthy but inside the heart, we do not fully know if the holes are 100% sealed. Even a tiny weenie little hole can leads to pericarditis if precaution measure is not taken. The antibiotics must be taken 1 hour before the extraction and that means we need to wait.. again.

To kill the time, we went for a light lunch. Light because Suhayl was not allowed to be full. Takut termuntah plak masa extraction nanti. Nom, nom, nom and we were back at the clinic just before 1pm. I was a bit nervous for my little boy because he is the ‘tak tahan’ sakit type :-p But surprisingly everything went well and not a single tear was shed. Datin Dr. Esther is such an amazing dentist. She just know how to ‘trick’ the kids and coax them to stay calm on the seat. Suhayl somehow enjoyed his first extraction... hahaha.. something that is quite rare for us to see from a kid. We walked out from the clinic at 2:30pm and headed to Kuantan Berjaya Megamall on foot (under the hot sun), which is about 1.5 km. To quench our thirst and sooth Suhayl’s gums, we hang out at the Starbucks for a while before heading back home.

It was a bit tiring spending about 5 hours at the dentist. But I think it was worth it when seeing Suhayl’s perception on ‘cabut gigi’ has totally changed. Fear no more J

Btw, here’s the result.. hehehe..
